Overview
Design an intuitive mobile app for blood donation that simplifies the donation process, offers appointment scheduling, and notifications for blood drives, and connects donors and recipients.
What is Blood Bank about?
The blood donation app is a mobile application designed to simplify the process of blood donation by providing a user-friendly interface for finding and scheduling appointments, receiving notifications for blood drives, and connecting donors and recipients. The app aims to increase blood donation rates by making it easier and more convenient for people to donate blood and help save lives.
To begin with, let me present the solution before leading you through my process.
Solution
Introduction
Users will be able to access blood donation information easily. The sign-up process is simple and straightforward, requiring only basic personal information such as name, email, and phone number. An OTP will be sent for verification to ensure the security and safety of users.
Empowering Connections: User-focused strategy for impactful action
On the Blood Bank app, users can view their verified donation status once medical testing has been completed, providing a clear indication of their eligibility. The app features intuitive notifications that keep users informed about their activity, while the homepage provides easy access to search for donors. The donor search functionality allows users to find compatible donors regardless of location. Also, users have the option to specify the urgency of their situation for optimized results. The Blood Bank app exemplifies an innovative approach to healthcare technology.
Connecting Donors and Receivers
After selecting a donor from the list, the user can choose their preferred candidate. Each donor's bio is available, and users can book appointments at the nearest health center. Additionally, users can sign up as donors themselves, with instructions provided. Once the user agrees to the terms and conditions, they can proceed to book an appointment. The blood bank app connects users to donors and receivers.

Problem Statement
How might we design a blood bank app that simplifies the process of finding and booking appointments with donors, while also providing users with access to a comprehensive donor database and promoting blood donation awareness in the community?
Personas
There are two primary user personas that would benefit from a blood donation app. The blood donor and the recipient. To better understand their needs and goals, empathy was employed to gain insights into their expectations and desires.
Blood donor goals
-
To easily find nearby blood donation centers and schedule appointments for donation.
-
To have access to information about their donation history, including the date and type of donation.
-
To connect with other donors and receive notifications about blood donation drives and events.
Blood recipient goals
-
To easily find blood donors with compatible blood types.
-
To access a comprehensive database of blood donors and their contact information.
-
To schedule appointments for blood transfusions and receive notifications about availability.
-
To feel confident and assured that they have access to the blood they need to improve their health.
User Journey
Scenario: Harriet, a caring and compassionate individual, heard about the "Blood Donation" app through a friend's recommendation. Intrigued by its mission to save lives, she decides to give it a try.

Reflection
Working on the UX blood bank project was challenging, requiring extensive research and multiple user flows. It taught me the importance of in-depth research and adaptability in UX design, and the need to be open to changes and iterations to ensure a satisfactory end product.
Opportunities for Improvement
-
Conduct more user research to explore the potential benefits of incorporating a video feature for blood donation and receiving education to help them better understand the donation process.

-
Allow for multiple ways of inputting information, such as voice activation, typing, or selecting from a list, to accommodate users with different abilities and preferences.

-
Explore effective strategies to increase donor engagement, such as implementing personalized reminders based on their donation history or creating a sense of community through sharing stories of how their donation has positively impacted others.
